Texas requires that all employees handling unpackaged food obtain a Food Handlers Certificate within 60 days of beginning employment at a food establishment. A Food Handler Program helps new and current food handlers keep up to date on laws and regulations for the county and state where they work.

This Food Handler course has been developed to meet the ANSI National Accreditation Board - Conference for Food Protection (ANAB-CFP) ANSI/ASTM E2659-18 requirements by training experts with the guidance of health department food safety officials and food management professionals.

How does this Course Work?

We've made it easy to receive your food handler card, meet state and company standards and begin work as quickly as possible. This course includes:

  • An overview of food safety issues, rules, and practices so you'll know how to keep your workplace safe.
  • Self-paced lessons that take less than 15 minutes and have a voice-over option that reads the lesson aloud.
  • Short 5 minute quizzes to see how much you've retained after each lesson.
  • A final test once all six lessons are completed. To get your Food Handler Certificate, you must achieve a 70%.

What Will I Learn?

  • How sickness is spread and how food becomes contaminated through unsafe practices are among the fundamentals of preventing foodborne illness.
  • Why hygiene is important, and how personal grooming, handwashing, and the use of protective clothing help you avoid illness.
  • How to spot the signs and symptoms of communicable diseases and food-borne illnesses that will keep you from working, and when you'll need a doctor's permission before working with foods.
  • How to accept and store food securely, including when to refuse food deliveries and how to keep food safe from contamination.
  • How to prevent foodborne illness by controlling food temperature, including how to measure and keep foods in safe temperature zones, as well as how to safely cook, cool, and reheat food.
  • The proper cleaning and sanitizing procedures to ensure a safe environment.

who Needs a Food Handlers card?

Anyone working in food service—servers, cooks, runners, dishwashers—May be required to obtain a food handlers certificate. Check with your manager to be sure.

For How Long is the Food Handler Certificate Valid?

Your certificate is valid for 3 years from the date you passed the exam.

How Long Does it Take to Complete?

Most users complete the course  in under 2 hours.

Is there an exam?

Yes—40 questions. You’ll need 75% or higher to pass, and you can retake it if needed.

When Do I Get my Certificate?

Immediately after passing. It’s available to download instantly.

Is This Certificate Good In Other States?

Probably. Responsible Training's ANAB-approved Food Handler Course is accepted in many states. Check with your manager to be sure.
